Linden’s Kyle Eberhard (front) won the men’s county meet race, while Lake Fenton’s Nolan Pinion broke a school record time.
It was a day of some top performances for the tri-county area’s boys cross country teams at the Greater Flint Cross Country Championships held at the Cummings Center on Saturday.
Linden’s Kyle Eberhard won the county’s individual title for the second straight season, the Eagles won the D2 boys team title and Lake Fenton’s Nolan Pinion broke a school record at the event.
Linden’s boys took second overall with 146 points while earning the D2 title. Fenton was 11th overall while Lake Fenton took 19th.
Eberhard won the county championship race with a time of 15:47.7, earning Eberhard his sixth victory this season. Finishing in second about three seconds behind Eberhard was Clio’s Elliott Sirianni (15:50.37) followed by Pinion, who broke a school record with his third-place time of 15:51.88.
“I’m super proud of the team,” Eberhard said about the Eagles’ performance. “A lot of guys had their best race of the season. We’re looking good going into the championship season.”
“I was thinking about the school record,” Pinion said. “During my long run last week, I decided this was the course and I was going to beat the record on Saturday. I felt a little slow at first going out at the start. Then, as I watched I could tell a lot of people were going out too hot, so I waited for my chance to pass them later.”
The Eagles were beat by the Flushing Raiders, who finished with 135 points versus the Eagles’ 146 points. Davison was third (147) and Clio finished fourth (148).
The rest of Linden’s top five runners were Ryan Blackwood in 12th (16:33.28), Clayton Ackerman in 14th (16:36.86), Caleb Monaghan in 52nd (17:48.79) and Davin Meckstroth in 69th (17:48.79).
The Fenton Tigers were paced by Nathan Katic who finished in fifth (16:06.07), while Luke Defina was 29th (17:15.41). The rest of Fenton’s scoring five were Anthony Maini in 34th (17:23.11), Jack Scott in 93rd (18:45.63) and Justin Perantoni in 126th (20:03.17).
Pinion recorded his first sub-16 minute time of his career with his time of 15:51.9. He broke Kyle Smith’s old school record time of 15:53.2. The rest of the Blue Devils’ scoring five were Gavin Hiler in 116th (19:37.74), Carter Klott in 146th (20:44.19), Drew Huestis in 154th (21:07.19) and Will Daniels in 173rd (23:15.22).
