What To Know About The Nestlé Toll House Cookie Dough Recall

As consumers, we trust food manufacturers to make safe, edible products. Unfortunately, food recalls happen often, and food products can be taken off shelves because of certain contaminants that were not intended to be in the product, such as bacteria, parasites, major allergens, and small pieces of metal, glass, or plastic (via FoodSafety). People with weak immune systems and pregnant people are especially susceptible to illness from contaminated food products, so it's important for food companies and manufacturers to report recalls as soon as they happen.

Food products of all degrees have been recalled, so no company is safe — not even big-name company Nestlé. Per the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), the last voluntary recall Nestlé made was in October 2019 and affected a slew of their cookie dough products. The brand is once again voluntarily recalling one of its ready-to-bake, refrigerated chocolate chip cookie dough products, according to a Nestlé press release made on October 14, 2022. Here is what you need to know about the recall.

Per Nestlé's press release, the product being recalled is the refrigerated, ready-to-bake Nestlé Toll House Stuffed Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough with Fudge Filling and does not extend to any other Nestlé products as of October 14, 2022. The recall is being made because the cookie dough may contain "white plastic pieces." Furthermore, the recalled product was made from June to September 2022 and sold throughout the U.S. and Puerto Rico. Affected products will have the UPC code 050000429912 on the back of the package under the barcode and should either be discarded or returned to the place of purchase for a refund or replacement.

Nestlé states that there have not been any injuries or illnesses reported due to the contaminated product, but a few customers did reach out to the company to make them aware of the problem, which prompted the recall. The company says it's handling the situation in conjunction with the FDA, and anyone with other questions or concerns can reach out to Nestlé USA at (800) 681-1676 during Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. EST.
