Wouldn't you know it, we just had our first official “cold and nipply” night in Yakima this week. It was so cold (HOW COLD WAS IT?), it made me whip out one of my coats this morning before I headed to work. I am sure other parts of the Yakima Valley have already begun to experience some chilly temps at night, too. Excuse me whilst I whine for a second because I am not ready for the cold weather again! Next thing you know, we’ll have to start turning the heat on inside the house and the car. And then NEXT next thing you know, it will be SNOWING!

Hint: No snowfall in the forecast for a few more weeks, but we do have a good idea of when it will begin. The weather has been unpredictable this year in the entire state of Washington so when CAN we expect to start seeing snow in Ellensburg and the Yakima Valley?

When Do We USUALLY Expect the First Snowfall in Yakima Valley?

Typically, our snow starts falling in the mid to late November. There have been a few times we've seen snow falling as early as October though. Were you around Washington state on October 28th, 1991 when we saw the earliest snowfall in Yakima Valley on record?

Let's see the dates of our first snowfall for the past two years.

Our first snowfall of the year in Ellensburg was on November 7th.

Our first snowfall of the year in Yakima was on November 18th.

Our first snowfall of the year in Ellensburg was on October 23rd.

Our first snowfall of the year in Yakima was on November 30th.

The Farmer’s Almanac says we should expect below normal snowfall levels this winter. They also give us an exact date of when Yakima Valley and Ellensburg can expect their first snowfall. Are you ready for the results?
